KAMANGGAGAWA Partylist Rep. Eli San Fernando welcomed House Speaker Bojie Dy’s firm commitment to pass the landmark wage reform measure in the House of Representatives.
The commitment was conveyed during a courtesy call held today, where San Fernando—joined by Rep. Ramon Jolo B. Revilla III, Rep. Adrian E. Salceda, and leaders of major labor groups—met with Speaker Dy to press for the urgent passage of the bill abolishing the provincial wage rate system and establishing a single national minimum wage.
Speaker Dy expressed his full support and commitment to move the measure forward, a development San Fernando described as historic.
“Makasaysayan at malaking bagay ito para sa mga manggagawa,” San Fernando said. "This is an opportunity for the leadership of the House to leave a long-lasting economic and wage reform legacy for Filipino workers. We are grateful that Speaker Bojie Dy is stepping up to meet the moment.”
Labor groups present during the meeting include the United Private Hospital Unions of the Philippines (UPHUP), National Federation of Labor (NFL), Organisasyon ng Nagkakaisang Empleyado sa Railway Industry (ONE-RILES), Workers and Peasants Party of the Philippines (WPP), Unified Filipino Service Workers (UFSW), National Federation of Labor Unions (NAFLU), Council of Teachers and Staff of Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (CoTeSCUP), UNI Global Union - Philippine Liaison Council (UNI-PLC), Bukluran ng Progresibong Mag-aaral (BUKLURAN), and various homeowners associations and community groups.
San Fernando added that if passed before the session break, the measure would carry symbolic weight for workers across the country.
“Kung maipapasa ito, napakagandang regalo ito sa mga manggagawa ngayong darating na Mayo Uno,” he said. “But more than a gift, it is justice long overdue.”
The Kamanggagawa lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to work closely with House leadership and co-authors to ensure the swift deliberation and approval of the bill.
“This is a rare moment when reform, political will, and people’s demand align,” San Fernando said. “We intend to make the most of it.”
